How Do You Play Blues Guitar?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Okay so you are getting pretty good at playing guitar. Either way, you want to learn more about playing guitar, particularly blues guitar. And why shouldn’t it, blues guitar sounds really neat. Through blues guitar, you get to tell stories and express your feelings. So who is your favorite blues guitarist? Mine would have to be BB King or Stevie Ray Vaughn, just because I connect with their music the most. So what really defines blues guitar anyways?

Blues guitar doesn’t have a certain start date, but it can be traced back to the slaves. It was the style that they sang their songs, laying down a simple 3 chord progression to tell a story. And that in a nutshell is blues guitar in its simplest form, 3 chords. But honestly, most songs aren’t that simple. A lot of Stevie’s have some powerful solos and heavy guitar riffs, but you can really notice the bluesy feel. This basically means that he stays on the blues scale during his solos in order to keep the music related. There are really a lot of ingredients to a classic blues guitar song, but it its simplest form, its just 3 chords.

So how do you want to start learning how to play blues guitar? Most people initially will think about classes or a tutor, but then they realize that they can’t afford either. But don’t worry, because there are options for you to learn at home. Not just a simple book, but a good DVD lesson program that is up to par with having a tutor in your home.
