Beginner Piano Lessons – Getting Started Learning the Piano

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Beginner piano lessons can be a topic discussed somewhere along the way when we have grown an interest in the piano. Perhaps it was inspiration from watching someone else play a wonderful piece of music. Also, it could be a chosen instrument and an aspiration for creating music. The reasons can be unlimited, but the next thing we need to understand will be how one can get started.

One of the first things that we need to do is to choose a piano. There are many choices about and it can be somewhat confusing. There are three main categories. Electronic, vertical, and grand pianos.

Verticals has more of an upright look to them and are often placed near a wall. Grand pianos has a wing type shape to them and are generally placed in a spacious area. The electronic keyboards generally do not take up alot of space and just about any location works well. They will generally include a great deal of nifty features.

Next is the size, and number of keys. In general, the larger the size is the more natural and higher quality sound the piano may be able to create. With that said however, many other factors exist that can contribute to this. This includes the company that created it among other things. As for the number of keys, 88 is the standard. A piano with additional keys or less than the normal may need a little adjustment. When starting out, it is recommended to get accustomed to using an 88 key piano.

Lastly is pricing. Grand generally costs more, followed by vertical and lastly electronic. The electronic piano is a solid choice for getting started as it won’t require a large financial investment. For longer term ventures a grand or vertical piano may be the choice there.

After a piano is chosen, we actually need to learn to play it. This is where easy piano lessons become a consideration. Some of the popular options are online courses, music schools and private piano teachers that can provide the necessary education to learn how to play the piano.

Although we may be able to experiment and try to figure things out by trial and error, it is not recommended. Reading music, understanding the chords, musical theory, and alot more things are there to be learned. Consider teachers and schools that may be in the local area. For those that prefer doing things on their own time, the closest and lowest cost option would be a online piano instruction course. For most, this may be a solid choice due to the fact that you can create your own schedule and operate at your own pace.

Once the lessons are being absorbed, this is the point where we are moving forward and have successfully started to learn the piano.

The Effects Of Different Genres When Learning To Play Guitar

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

While you’re learning to play guitar, it’s all to simple to get mired into a rut of working with only 1 genre.  Whilst this is a large amount of fun to do, it will not help you grow as a guitarist very much, and might lead to you getting to be somewhat held back as a guitar player.

As a industrial metal guitar player, when I started learning to play guitar I instinctively moved towards towards the speedy shredders of that era, but that started to restrict the kind of things I was capable of, and I realized that learning to play guitar was about more than only copying your heroes.

The answer to moving yourself onwards as a musician is to be certain you try out some different styles that may fit well with those that you are familiar with.  For hard rock and metal guitarists, useful styles of music to check out would be traditional blues music and classical music.

Blues playing and classical guitar playing include a lot of the elements which ended up creating the heavy metal and hard rock in evidence today, and studying those genres will in turn add another layer to your guitar playing. The key is to never restrict yourself when learning to play guitar.  Limiting the styles you learn boundaries your development, and the very last thing you want is to get stuck playing the same thing again and again again without any room to grow and create better music.

The basics of each genre may take a little getting comfortable with, but the effects on your own skills will be hard to ignore.  Guitar players you could check out would include stars like Yngwie Malmsteen (for the classical influences), Michael Lee Firkins (for country influences) or Ritchie Kotzen (for blues influences).

Try out some country music or bluegrass, or pop rock.  Look into any guitar music that may be a little beyond your own section and your own personal influences. Not only will you evolve into a more rounded guitar player, but playing around with these other styles can help learning to play guitar be a great deal more fun and lots more gratifying.

Sore Guitar Finger

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Starting out to play guitar is for sure an exciting experience. The joy of selecting your first guitar whether it is electric, accoustic, bass or classical is only the start of your guitar playing experience

Taking the leap that will turn your vision of playing that wonderful instrument into a reality will demand many hours of hard but pleasurable practice periods that will eventually make you feel at one with your new guitar.

It is of course advisable to follow a structured teaching program for the quickest and best results when learning to play any instrument and your new guitar will be no exception.

Oftentimes new students to the guitar find that they are only too soon confronted with a first challenge when they find that learning to play guitar can give you sore guitar fingers and it can hurt!

Going through even the most elementary exercises require that the muscles in the hand and wrist alter and toughen in order to hold the guitar neck whilst move up and down the fretboard. At the same time the fingers of the left hand are required to be able to stretch laterally to cover the necessary frets and hold the guitar strings from that position, whilst the right hand is addressing the pick to the playing strings in the right position over an extended period of time as well.

It will take a period of weeks of exercises to toughen and stretch the muscles and tendons in the hands to decrease any aching or discomfort experienced in early practice sessions. It has to be accepted that there is a period of adjustment to see through as you develop and maintain hand strength and it should not check early enthusiasm to learn to play the guitar.

There are many good products available from sports shops intended to build hand grip strength and most of these cost very little but do deliver if used regularly. Taking a soft rubber ball in your pocket and clenching it whenever you can through the day is an exercise which bit by bit builds grip strength too.

A very good exercise that can be done anywhere is to place your hands together as if in prayer. Increase the gap between your fingers as far as you can, now holding the finger tips together lift the palms away from each other while keeping pressure on the finger tips. This exercise will aid you in stretching your fingers across the frets of your guitar more succesfully. Making this a regular pre-practice routine would make excellent sense. Your beginner guitar lessons will be the better for it.

A very frequent challenge for new guitar players is that the finger tips of the left hand develop cracks and calluses from pressing on the guitar strings. There are various opinions on what is the best way to address this situation but the best is surely to avoid them in the first place. In the begining keep practice sessions to say only fifteen minutes at a time allowing the fingers to toughen up before you start to make the sessions any longer as this will help obviate any problem. There is evidence that repeatedly applying a some surgical spirit to the finger tips helps to toughen them up

If you are unfortunate enough to have your fingers split then one remedy often put forward and which permits you to continue playing is to seal the cracks in the skin with a substance like Dermabond or even superglue. However it is probably far more realistic if your fingers start to become sore to back off a while and allow them to heal naturally before you start to play again

It needs a while for hands and fingers to acclimatise to playing the guitar so the rule is be patient and practice often but practice in short sessions. They do say – no pain, no gain. The lifetime of joy to be gained from staying with it and mastering your guitar is definately worth a little short term discomfort!

So if you have your wonderful new guitar and an excellent course to follow there is absolutely nothing to stop you from achieving your dream of playing it!!

The Fundamentals On How To Tune A Guitar

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

When it comes to playing the guitar, what is more important than learning how to play the instrument itself? This is simple. What more important is actually knowing how to tune a guitar. This may seem trivial at one point or another, but knowing how to tune a guitar really helps. Your friends won’t always be there to tune your guitar for you. Thus, you yourself should know how to tune a guitar.

Let start by naming the 6 strings of the guitar first. It’s straightforward, in actual fact. They’re named the initial string, the following string, the third string, and such like. But it is the keys that these notes represent that you should also remember. The initial string is the thinnest of all strings, and it is located at the base of the pile. This is also the string with the highest pitch. When you courage the 1st string, it should give you the pitch of the key of E. This would be your higher E. The second string is found above the initial string, and when plucked, it gives the key of B. The third string gives the key of G. The fourth string gives the key of D. The fifth gives the key of A, and the 6th gives the key of E. Now, the 6th is the thickest string, and gives a more baritone version of the initial string E. So , the pitch would be lower here.

When tuning a guitar, you should a reference instrument, like a piano. Pluck the 6th string, and it should match the key of E, or Mi, on the keyboard. When you have that, then you can move on to the other strings. Go for the 6th string at the 5th fret. Then compare it with the 5th open string. The tunes they give out should match. If they don’t, then adjust the bottom string accordingly. Repeat this step as you go down each string. But when you get to the 3rd string, then it should be played at the 4th fret, rather than the 5th. Compare the 3rd string with the tune given by the 2nd open string. After than, go to the 2nd string back at the 5th fret once again. Compare the tune given to that of the 1st open string.

This is just the basic when you wish to find out how to tune a guitar. When you first find out how to tune a guitar, comparing tunes and adjusting strings could be a bit hard. But you get better with a bit of practice, just like every other activity.

Making instrumentals online can begin once you have your software program. Now that that is done, where do you start, you might ask? It can be daunting as there are so many different options to choose from. Some simple starting steps are offered to help you get going.

Firstly you need to make sure you have a structure for your song before you start composing it. How long you want it to be, the rise and fall, the chorus and the climax are among the aspects of the composition you should know.

I’m not saying you need it on paper, though it is a good idea, but you need to have a map of it in your head so you don’t get too bogged down and you have a place to start.

Secondly, label the different movements in your program, verse, chorus, etc. Helping you keep a clear mind to make instumentals online is what being organized is all about.

Now you get to start playing with the music. Laying down the drums is the first step in this phase. You won’t know where all the punctuations have to be just yet, but don’t stress because you can edit it later. But it will give you a solid foundation to build the rest of your instrumentals up from.

If you still need to get your software, visit MakeMusicBeatsOnlineNow.com.
